背景信息	Fork head box protein O4, also known as Fork head domain transcription factor AFX1, with gene names FOXO4, AFX, AFX1 or MLLT7 is a transcription factor protein critical to the regulation of insulin signaling. FOXO4 activated insulin responsive genes by binding to the insulin responsive elements (IREs). FOXO4 also activates the transcription of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins, including IGFBP1. Interestingly, FOXO4 actively causes a decrease in expression hypoxia-induced transcription including down regulating the expression of their activating expression factor HIF1A. FOXO4 also influences cell cycle progression in a negative manner, and is involved in the up regulation of proteasome activity in developing embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Like many transcription factors FOXO4 can be found in the nucleus and cytoplasm. FOXO4 activity is regulated by numerous means but a major way is through phosphorylation.
