背景信息	Hemoglobulin subunit delta, alternatively known as Delta-globin, or Hemoglobin delta chain is encoded by the human gene named HBD and is one of globular subunit molecules of vertebrate hemoglobulin. Each hemoglobulin molecule is an assembly of four protein subunits. Each protein subunit is composed of a protein chain tightly associated with a heme group, where the iron ion is held. Hemoglobulin delta chain is one of four subunit genes located at the beta locus of the human hemoglobulin gene. Adult hemoglobulin, or Hemoglobulin A, is composed of 2 alpha hemoglobulin chains and 2 beta hemoglobulin chains. Fetal, Hemoglobulin F or infant hemoglobulin consists of 2 alpha chains and 2 gamma chains. A variant of adult hemoglobulin, Hemoglobulin A2 is made of 2 alpha chains and 2 delta chains. Hemoglobulin A2 makes up less than 3% of adult hemoglobulin and its function is assumed to be physiologically irrelevant, however, Hemoglobulin A2 is often found increased in beta thalassaemia or in heterozygous carriers of the gene. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-Hemoglobulin delta chain rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on fetal heart, liver and red blood cell lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human endometrium tissue sections.
