背景信息	C-X-C motif chemokine 13, or Angie, B cell-attracting chemokine 1 (BCA-1), B lymphocyte chemoattractant, CXC chemokine BLC, Small inducible cytokine B13 and encoded by the human gene CXCL13/BCA1/BLC/SCYB13 is a chemokine secreted in response to inflammation that is a strong chemoattractant for B-lymphocytes. CXCL13 appears specific for B-lymphocytes as it is not effective as a chemotaxic agent for monocytes, neutrophils or T-lymphocytes. CXCL13 binds the chemokine receptor CXCR5 present on B-lymphocytes. The organs with the highest level of expression of CXCL13 include the liver, spleen and gut lymph nodes; other organs such as the appendix and stomach still express CXCL13 but at a much reduced level. Within the lymph node, CXCL3 via its receptor CXCR5 control the organization of B cells within the follicles as well as lymphoid neogenesis. In other situations, CXCL13 is being studied as a potential biomarker for inflammation in difficult to detect regions like the brain and CNS. High CXCL13 levels correlated well with patients that had Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB), a disease where the Lyme disease agent has invaded the CNS, moreover CXCL13 levels were detected far earlier than antibodies to the agent leading to earlier discovery and treatments. Similar research is examining CXCL13 use as a biomarker for other infectious diseases such as Typanosomiasis. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-CXCL13 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot against human placenta tissue extracts.
