背景信息	The protein named A-kinase anchor protein 1, mitochondrial, or alternatively A-kinase anchor protein 149 kDa, (AKAP 149), Dual specificity A-kinase-anchoring protein 1 (D-AKAP-1), Protein kinase A-anchoring protein 1 (PRKA1), or Spermatid A-kinase anchor protein 84 (S-AKAP84) and encoded by the human gene named AKAP1/AKAP149/PRKA1 is a mitochondrial localized protein that binds protein kinase A (PKA) and anchors it to the cytoplasmic face of the mitochondrial outer membrane. AKAP1 is highly expressed in a variety of tissues and cancers. As an anchor for PKA, AKAP1 is involved in cAMP dependent signal transduction and may also play a role in RNA compartmentalization, something particularly important in neuronal and glial cell functions in the mature and developing brain. AKAP1 is also important in other cellular functions within the nervous system, including neuronal morphogenesis, dendrite and synapse development. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-AKAP1 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on HeLa cell extracts, paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human prostate cancer sections, and fluorescent immunocytochemistry on MCF-7 cells in culture.
