背景信息	Tissue factor pathway inhibitor-2 (TFPI-2), a structural homologue of TFPI, is a Kunitz-type serine proteinase inhibitor having high expression in the extracellular matrix of fibroblasts, endothelial cells, keratinocytes, synoviocytes, and smooth muscle cells. The protein consists of three, repeating Kunitz-type domain structures with a basic amino acid enriched C-terminal tail, and an acidic amino acid N-terminal region. The C-terminal tail of TFPI-2 is necessary to the protein’s transduction through the cell-membrane and into the nucleus. Studies have shown TFPI-2 to inhibit chymotrypsin, plasmin, cathepsin G, trypsin, and plasma kallikrein. Various lines of research have suggested an inverse relationship between TFPI-2 expression and the malignancy of invasive cell lines such as gliomas and to have a role in cancer invasion, progression, and metastasis. It has also been suggested that TFPI-2 induces caspase-mediated apoptosis when offered to a variety of tumor cells (Kempaiah, 2009). TFPI-2 expression has been observed in full-term placenta, along with several adult tissue types such as kidney, liver, heart, skeletal muscle, and pancreas.
