背景信息	The protein named Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit gamma-1 or alternatively GABA(A) receptor subunit gamma-1 and encoded by the human gene named GABRG1 is the gamma subunit of the GABA(A) receptor in the nervous tissue. GABA is the major inhibitor neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain. GABA also mediates its effects by binding to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor and opening a chloride channel, which stabilizes the membrane potential making it more difficult to depolarize. The GABA(A) receptor is a large penta-complex protein that has five subunit chains, alpha, beta, gamma, delta and rho and these subunits are mixed and matched in various combinations for different effects. The minimal requirement to produce a GABA-gated ion channel is the inclusion of both alpha and beta subunits, but the most common type in the brain is a pentamer comprising two alphas, two betas, and a gamma subunit. The gamma subunit or GABRG1 carries the benzodiazepine binding site and it also has two other isoforms (gamma-2 and gamma-3). Benzodiazepine is a class of tranquilizer. Expression is throughout the brain but also in other tissues including Leydig cells, placenta, liver, bone and certain endocrine cells. GABA(A) receptors are also associated with various cancers including lung cancers. EMD-Millipore’s Anti- GABRG1 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on mouse eye tissue and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human glioma tissue sections.
