    背景信息 Protein patched homolog 2 is a 180 - 200 kDa 12 transmembrane member of the Patched family that exists in a signal cascade with Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) and Smoothened (SMO). Protein patched homolog 2 and Smoothened form a membrane complex that serves as a receptor for Sonic Hedgehog (SHH). Protein patched homolog 2 is 1203 amino acids (aa) in length. It has two terminal cytoplasmic domains, one between aa 1 - 57, and a second between aa 1115 - 1203.

Although the majority of medulloblastomas occur sporadically, some manifest within familial cancer syndromes such as Turcot syndrome and basal cell nevus syndrome (Gorlin syndrome).

    Defects in PTCH2 are a cause of sporadic basal cell carcinoma (BCC) [MIM:605462].
