    背景信息 Galectin-3 belongs to the galectin gene family defined by the specificity of a carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) for Gal/Lac and expression is usually elevated in a wide range of neoplastic cell types. The galectin CRD consists of 135 amino acids. Galectin-3 has been shown to effect tumor development and progression.

    UniProt汇总 FUNCTION: Galactose-specific lectin which binds IgE. May mediate with the alpha-3, beta-1 integrin the stimulation by CSPG4 of endothelial cells migration. Together with DMBT1, required for terminal differentiation of columnar epithelial cells during early embryogenesis (By similarity).

    SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Probably forms homo- or heterodimers. Interacts with DMBT1 (By similarity). Forms a complex with the ITGA3, ITGB1 and CSPG4. Interacts with LGALS3BP, LYPD3, CYHR1 and UACA.

    SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. Note: Cytoplasmic in adenomas and carcinomas (By similarity). May be secreted by a non-classical secretory pathway and associate with the cell surface.

    TISSUE SPECIFICTY: The highest levels are found in activated macrophages.

    SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Contains 1 galectin domain.
