背景信息	Glucose-6-phosphate 1 dehydrogenase (G6PD) is a critical first step enzyme in glucose degradation metabolism and G6PD is a primary source for the production of NADPH (a primary reducer and cofactor in metabolism). The cytosolic enzyme also plays a critical role in protecting red blood cells from oxidative damage and premature destruction because the production of NADPH helps to maintain levels of reduced glutathione. Defects in G6PD causes hemolytic anemia as well as a wide range of other G6PD disorders such as neonatal jaundice, and drug and infection mediated hemolytic crisis. Because G6PD also affects cell growth and proliferation via its influence on NADPH reductive biosynthetic pathways, inhibitors of G6PD are being examined as possible cancer preventatives. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-G6PD rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on various human cancer cell line lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human testis tissue sections.
