- Placenta growth factor
背景信息 Placenta growth factor (PGF, PIGF, PGFL, or PLGF) is a secreted protein primarily produced by placental trophoblast tissues but also expressed in other endothelial tissues and cancers. There are three isoforms, PGF-1, PGF-2, and PGF-3 (PIGF-1, PIGF-2, PIGF-3). PGF-2 is expressed up until week 8 in the placenta; PGF-1 and PGF-3 are continuously expressed by the placental tissues but only PGF-1 is found in colon and mammary carcinomas. PGF acts to stimulate angiogenesis, endothelial growth and migration. PGF is a powerful promoter of tumor growth and is upregulated in some cancers, and PGF is thought to aid in atherosclerotic lesions and neovascular growth surrounding the lesion. Also, PGF appears to aid aldosterone mediated atherosclerosis. Serum levels of PGF can be measured and in some cases used as a potential biomarker for disease or genetic defect.
