背景信息	Napsin-A, or Aspartyl protease 4 (ASP4) is a pepsin-like aspartic proteinase. There are two closely related napsins, napsin A and napsin B. Napsin A is expressed as a single chain protein with the molecular weight of approximately 38 kDa. Napsin A is expressed at high levels in human lung and kidney tissues but low levels in other tissues such as spleen. Napsin A is expressed in the lung cell called pneumocytes, also known as alveolar type II cells, great alveolar cells or septal cells where it is involved in the processing of surfactant protein B (SP-B). Napsin A is also expressed in adenocarcinomas of lung, and Napsin A expression in lung cancer is a specific marker for distinguishing primary lung adenocarcinomas from adenocarcinomas of other organs. Napsin A has been shown to be a tumor growth inhibitor when applied to HEK293 cell tumors though the mechanism of inhibition appears not to be related to its protease activity. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-Napsin rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on human lung adenocarcinoma lysate and in immunohistochemistry on paraffin embedded human lung adenocarcinoma tissue sections.
