背景信息 BCAP31 (B-cell receptor-associated protein 31) is more commonly known as BAP31. BCAP31 is an integral protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and controls the export of other integral proteins to the secretion pathways and can manipulate the cell surface. BCAP31 is also associated with shaping cell sensitivity to ER stress. BCAP31 has two caspase cleavage sites that can be used in certain apoptotic pathways, and BCAP31 binds with Fis1 to create a bridge from the ER to the mitochondria for apoptosis signaling. The encoded protein is a multi-pass transmembrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum that is involved in the anterograde transport of membrane proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi and in the caspase 8-mediated apoptosis. Microdeletions in this gene are associated with the contiguous ABCD1/DXS1375E deletion syndrome. Two pseudogenes have been identified on chromosome 16. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described although the biological validity of some of the variants has not been determined.
