背景信息	Chromogranin A is the major member of the granin family of acidic secretory glycoproteins that are expressed in all endocrine and neuroendocrine cells. The granins have been proposed to play multiple roles in the secretory process. Intracellularly, granins play a role in targeting peptide hormones and neurotransmitters to granules of the regulated pathway by virtue of their ability to aggregate in the low-pH, high-calcium environment of the trans-Golgi network (1).

These peptides act as autocrine or paracrine negative modulators of the neuroendocrine system. Other peptides, including chromostatin, beta-granin, WE-14 and GE-25, are also derived from the full-length protein. However, biological activities for these molecules have not been shown.
