背景信息	The protein named ATP-binding cassette sub-family B member 10, mitochondrial, or ATP-binding cassette transporter 10 (ABC transporter 10 protein), or Mitochondrial ATP-binding cassette 2 (M-ABC2),and encoded by the human gene named ABCB10, is a mitochondrially expressed transporter protein critical for its transport functions and necessary for heme biosynthesis. ABCB10 is highly expressed in a large number of tissues including muscle, intestine, liver, spinal cord, lung, and brain. Part of the ABC transporter family, ABCB10 uses the hydrolysis of ATP to translocate a variety of compounds across membranes and thus play an essential role in metabolism. ABCB10 expression is also highly induced during erythroid differentiation and its overexpression increases hemoglobin synthesis in erythroid cells. However, as stated above ABCB10 is also expressed in nonerythroid tissues, suggesting many other roles for ABCB10 in different tissues. ABCB10 is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane forming homodimers, with the ATP binding domain facing the mitochondrial matrix. Recent evidence points toward ABCB10 as an important player in the protection from oxidative stress in mammals. In this regard, ABCB10 is required for normal erythropoiesis and cardiac recovery after ischemia-reperfusion and links ABCB10 to recovery from oxidative stress. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-ABCB10 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blots in K562 cell lysates.
