背景信息	Lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) is a secreted protein produced by hepatocytes, immune cells and epithelial cells that binds lipid A protein on bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) present on the outer membranes of all gram negative bacteria. When bound to LPS, LBP potentiates the affinity of LPS for CD14 and likely plays a role in regulating LPS-dependent monocyte responses. LBP also interacts with the innate immunity receptors TLR2 and TLR4 and the co-receptor MD-2 and thus plays a key role in our innate response to bacterial infection. Because LBP expression is induced upon bacterial infection it is being studied as a possible biomarker for infection, particularly in difficult cases such as acute appendicitis, sepsis, infectious endocarditis, periodontal disease, febrile urinary infections and even cardiovascular disease. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-LBP rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on mouse liver lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human liver cancer tissue sections and in immunofluorescent immunocytochemistry on HepG2 cell in culture.
