背景信息	The protein named Vesicle-associated membrane protein-associated protein B/C (VAMP-B/VAMP-C, or VAMP-associated protein B/C, or VAP-B/VAP-C), and encoded by the human gene named VAPB is an endoplasmic reticulum chaperon protein that interacts with VAMP1 and VAMP2 and assists in synaptosomal function. VAPB also participates in intracellular calcium metabolism and is critical for stress responses in various other cell types. Defects in VAPB are associated with ALS and a form of spinal muscular atropy named SMAPAD. VAPB is expressed in many cell types and localized to internal membranes. VAPB is overexpressed in many cancers, however, its precise function is unknown in cancer. Recent research in breast cancer indicates that VAPB promotes breast tumor growth by modulating the activity of AKT. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-VAPB rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blots on Jurkat cell extracts, in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human pancreatic cancer tissue sections, and in fluorescent immunocytochemistry on HepG2 cells in culture.
