背景信息	The protein currently named Carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 1, liver isoform or (CPT1-L,CPTI-L), or Carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A and encoded by the human gene named CPT1A or CPT1 is a mitochondrial associated enzyme that is essential for mitochondrial uptake of long-chain fatty acids and their subsequent use and oxidation in the mitochondria. As a result, CPT1A also plays an essential role in triglyceride metabolism and lipid metabolism in general. CPT1A is expressed strongly in kidney, heart, liver and skeletal muscle; a related enzyme CPT1C is expressed in the brain. CPT1A plays a central role in fatty acid metabolism and in metabolic disorders such as diabetes. Increased levels of malonyl-CoA, a specific inhibitor of CPT1A expression, causes a decrease in the transport of long chain fatty acids into the muscle and heart mitochondria, decreasing the fatty acid oxidation in those cells and reducing their energy metabolism as well as encouraging the accumulation of fat in the muscle. Because of its importance in lipid metabolism CPT1A is a focus of much research surrounding metabolic disorders. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-CPT1A rabbit polyclonal antibody as been tested in western blot and immunoprecipitation on HepG2 cell extracts and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human liver cancer tissue sections.
