背景信息	The protein FGF-13 (Fibroblast growth factor 13), or alternatively known in older literature as FHF-2 (Fibroblast growth factor homologous factor 2) and encoded by the human gene named FGF13/FHF2 is relatively recent member of the FGF family but unlike classical FGF-1 or FGF-2, FGF13 lacks signal sequences and thus is not secreted internally within its expressed cell. FGF13 is strongly expressed in nervous tissues and critical in neuron polarization and migration, particularly in the hippocampus. FGF13 binds microtubules with neurons and assists in both the polymerization and stabilization of them. FGF13 also interacts with voltage gated sodium channels, in particular with voltage gated sodium channels Nav1.6 and Nav 1.5, and appears to influence their activity and function. FGF13 is typically localized in the filopodium, growth cones or dendrites and FGF13 has two isoforms. Isoform 1 appears to localize in the nucleus and nucleolus of expression cells, while isoform 2 is primarily cytoplasmically localized. FGF13 expression is also seen outside of the nervous system, including the gonads and the skin. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-FGF13 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on human brain tissue extracts and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human osteosarcoma tissues sections.
