背景信息	The protein called cytokine receptor common subunit gamma, or alternatively Interleukin-2 receptor subunit gamma (IL-2RG), gammaC, p64, or CD132 is the common subunit for a variety of cytokine receptors including IL2R, IL4R, IL7R, IL15R, IL21R and perhaps IL13R. It is a membrane bound protein expressed by a variety of lymphocytes including B, T and NK cells. The IL2RG gene, interestingly enough, is located on the X-chromosome in mammals. The common receptor subunit partners with various other receptor subunits to transmit cell signals to the nucleus, typically via the JAK/JAK3 signaling cascades. Defects in IL2RG are linked to X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency syndrome that results in a severely impaired immune system because of an inactive or non-present common cytokine receptor subunit. Sufferers typically have no functional immune system because critical lymphocyte populations like T cells and NK cells fail to develop because their critical receptors are non-functional. Such individuals have to be kept isolated in sterile chambers and often die early in life; sometimes bone marrow transplants can restore their defective immune system with a functioning new one but IL2RG is such a widespread and needed component that success and a normal survival is not always possible even with transplants. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-IL2RG rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blots on Jurkat cell lysates.
