背景信息	The protein named Lysozyme C or alternatively 1,4 beta-N-acetylmuramidase C and encoded by the human gene name LYZ or LZM is a secreted enzyme produced by immune cells such as macrophages and monocytes that cleaves specific protein linkages in peptidoglycan and chitodextrins proteins often associated with bacterial cell walls. LYZ is thought to be primarily a bacteriolytic enzyme and part of our innate immune system defense. LYS is abundant in various bodily fluids such as tears, saliva, and mucus. LYS is also present in the cytoplasmic granules of polymorphonuclear neutrophils and can be discharged when the cells are activated. Certain cancers can cause overexpression of Lysozyme C such as in myelomonocytic leukemia, and this can lead to kidney failure and low potassium levels which are life threatening conditions. Anti-LYZ rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on human spleen tissue extracts.
