背景信息 Barrier-to-autointegration factor 1 (BANF1) is a member of the BAF family. BANF1 plays fundamental roles in gene expression, nuclear assembly, chromatin organization and gonad development. BANF1 may be involved in membrane recruitment and chromatin decondensation during nuclear assembly. BANF1 contains two non-specific dsDNA-binding sites which may promote DNA cross-bridging. BANF1 is known to be a host cell component of retroviral pre-integration complexes (PICs), including that of HIV. It’s been shown that retroviruses utilize BANF1 for inhibiting self-destructing autointegration of retroviral DNA, and thereby promoting integration of viral DNA into the host chromosome.
