背景信息 L3MBTL1, also known as H-l(3)mbt, H-l(3)mbt protein, L(3)mbt-like, L(3)mbt protein homolog, or L3MBTL1, and encoded by the gene L3MBTL1 /KIAA0681/L3MBT/L3MBTL, is a "reader" polycomb (PcG) protein that specifically recognizes and binds mono- and dimethyl-lysine residues on target proteins and works to monitor the repressive state of genes. L3MBTL1 acts as a chromatin compaction factor by recognizing and binding mono- and dimethylated histone H1b and histone H4 leading to condensed chromatin and repressed transcription. L3MBTL1 also recognizes several other non-histone transcription factors such as p53 mono-methylated and works to mediate their target gene’s expression too. L3MBTL1 is localized to the nucleus in resting cells; in mitotic cells it is strongly associated with condensed chromosomes.
