背景信息	Histone H2B is one of four histones that form a core octameric structure required for the packaging of DNA into nucleosomes, the most basic level of chromatin arrangement. Histones undergo a number of post-translational modifications (PTM) at their N- and C-terminal tails, which can influence chromatin structure and stability; and consequently, transcription, and DNA replication and repair. Histone methylation is involved in many key epigenetic phenomena, including maintaining the boundaries between heterochromatin and euchromatin. Histone methylation of lysines is generally associated with transcriptional repression; however, some modifications, such as methylation of Lys4 of histone H3, are associated with transcriptional activation. The role of methylation of Lys5 of Histone 2B is unknown.
