背景信息 Interleuken-13 (IL-13) is an immunoregulatory protein produced by activated T-cell lymphocytes. The biological activities of IL-13 include the stimulation of B-cell proliferation and immunoglobulin production. Also some of its biological activity is tied to and shows significant overlap with IL-4 including; anti-inflammatory actions in monocytes, production of cytokines and inducing enzymatic acid-metabolism on bronchial epithelial cells. This cytokine down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This cytokine is found to be critical to the pathogenesis of allergen-induced asthma but operates through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils.
