背景信息	The protein named Neuronal acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha-7, or neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor alpha7 subunit (nAChRa7) is the alpha subunit of a multi-protein, post-synaptic membrane bound ion-channel receptor complex expressed in acetylcholine responsive neurons in the brain and some immune cells. The nAChRa7 receptor belongs to the family of ligand gated ion channels. In the brain, the nAChRa7 receptor is expressed in key brain regions and it is involved in essential cognitive functions such as memory, thinking, comprehension, learning capacity, calculation, orientation, language, and judgment. The a7 subunit has also been identified as a significant mediator of nicotine interactions within the stress axis and human disease. nAChRa7 also has neuroprotective effects via multiple pathways making it a target for treatment of a number of brain disorders including Alzheimer’s disease. Finally, nAChRa7 is key to the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway in mediating inflammatory responses by immune cells which can aid in chronic inflammatory diseases like Atherosclerosis.
