背景信息 The protein named density-regulated protein (DRP1), also known as DRP, or Protein DRP1 or Smooth muscle cell-associated protein 3 (SMAP-3), and encoded by the gene DENR/DRP1, is an important translational control protein that appears to function by scanning target mRNAs for the recognition codon when complexed with the translational initiation complex. DRP1 also modulates the translation of particular cancer-related mRNAs when recruited to the translational complex by the oncogene MCTS1 and DRP1 is up regulated in many cancers such as ovarian and breast cancers. Additionally, DRP1’s expression is regulated by increasing cell density through interaction with heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein D (HNRNPD) protein, a critical protein that complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA and pre-mRNAs and fosters mRNA stability.
