背景信息 Roundabout homolog 1 (ROBO1) is a transmembrane receptor belonging to the superfamily of immunoglobulin proteins. ROBO1 is ubiquitously expressed in mammalian tissues and is highly abundant in the developing nervous system, where it plays an important role in axon guidance. ROBO1 binds the repellent molecule Slit and transduces signals that prevent inappropriate migration of axons: axons located ipsilateral to the midline are prevented from crossing the midline, and those located contralateral to the midline are blocked from recrossing. ROBO1/Slit signaling is also important in the development of the visual system, forebrain, and hindbrain.
