背景信息	Hepatoma derived growth factor (HDGF), or alternatively High mobility group protein 1-like 2 (HMG-1L2) encoded by the human gene HDGF/HMG1L2 is a nuclear protein with nuclear targeting required for mitogenic activity. HDGF appears to function as a transcriptional repressor and binds DNA via HDGF’s N-terminal PWWP domain and targets a conserved DNA element in the promoter of a variety of genes. Sumoylation via SUMO1 regulates HDGF’s DNA binding ability. HDGF is also involved in vascular development and HDGF is considered an oncogene, though not all tumors are HDGF positive but among those that are the outcome for survival is worse in patients with HDGF+ tumors. Moreover down regulation of HDGF expression in tumor lines significantly reduced the proliferation and diminished anchorage-independent growth on soft agar and cell migration, all factors that are anti-oncogenic, and thus HDGF is a target for anti-cancer therapy.
