背景信息	Methionine synthase reductase (MSR) is the gene product of the MTRR gene. Methionine is one of the essential amino acids, meaning that it cannot be synthesized within the body but must be provided. Its synthesis is catalyzed by the enzyme methionine synthase. Methionine synthase’s activity is governed by the state of an essential co-factor, Cob(1)alamin (Cob1). Methionine synthase reductase (MSR, MTRR) is the enzyme the regenerates a functional methionine synthase via the reductive methylation of Cob(1) to Cob(2), which also requires reduction of NADP to NADPH and the release of S-adenosyl-L- methionine (SAM). Methionine synthase reductase (MSR/MTRR) is expressed in all tissues but is particular abundant in skeletal muscle and is exclusively cytoplasmic in location. Defects in MTRR are the cause of methylcobalamin deficiency type E (cblE); also known as vitamin B12-responsive homocystinuria or homocystinuria-megaloblastic anemia complementation type E. Patients who are defective in reductive activation of methionine synthase exhibit megaloblastic anemia, developmental delay, hypomethioninemia, and hyperhomocysteinemia, and have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and neural tube defects. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-MTRR rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on various human cell line lysates and in fluorescent immunocytochemistry on human HeLa cells in culture.
