背景信息	CD52, or alternatively as CAMPATH-1 antigen, CDw52, Cambridge pathology 1 antigen, Epididymal secretory protein E5, Human epididymis-specific protein 5 (He5) and encoded by the human gene named CD52 or CDW52, or HE5 is membrane glycoprotein that is present on the surface of mature lymphocytes but not progenitors. CD52 is also found on mature T-cells, monocytes, dendritic cells and mature sperm cells. Because CD52 is located on the cell surface and contains a highly negatively charged extracellular domain one function of CD52 is thought to be, at least in sperm cells, to help prevent aggregations of sperm cells and thus facilitate the free movement of them when in close quarters. CD52 expression is also associated with certain lymphomas, but thus far its complete function is unknown. However because CD52 is expressed on mature B and T cells it has been a target for therapies in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis where treatment with an antibody against CD52 leads to a rapid and profound lymphopenia and helps to reset the lymphocyte balance in treated individuals. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-CD52 rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on mouse thymus and mouse spleen lysates.
