背景信息	The protein named C-X-C motif chemokine 16, or Scavenger receptor for phosphatidylserine and oxidized low density protein (SR-PSOX), Small-inducible cytokine B16, or Transmembrane chemokine CXCL16 and encoded by the human gene CXCL16/SCYB16/SRPSOX is a membrane bound chemokine that acts as a receptor on macrophages for oxidized low density lipoprotein and is also a strong chemotactic molecule for T cells when soluble. In tissues, CXCL16 can be found in T-cell areas such as thymus but also spleen, lymph nodes, lung, kidney and small intestine. Lower expression is seen in the heart and liver, with below detection observed in brain and bone marrow extracts. CXCL16 is composed of a CXC chemokine domain, a mucin-like stalk, a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic tail containing a potential tyrosine phosphorylation site that may bind SH2. These are unusual features for a chemokine, and allow CXCL16 to be expressed as a cell surface bound molecule, as well as a soluble chemokine.
