背景信息	Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 11, also known as Osteoclast differentiation factor (ODF) or Osteoprotegerin ligand (OPGL) or Receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL) or TNF-related activation-induced cytokine (TRANCE) or CD254, and encoded by the gene name TNFSF11 or OPGL or RNAKL or TRANCE, functions as a key factor for osteoclast differentiation and activation. RANKL was shown to be a dentritic cell survival factor and is involved in the regulation of T cell-dependent immune response. T cell activation was reported to induce expression of RANKL and lead to an increase of osteoclastogenesis and bone loss. RANKL activates antiapoptotic kinase AKT/PKB through a signaling complex involving SRC kinase and tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor (TRAF) 6, which indicated RANKL may have a role in the regulation of cell apoptosis. Mutations in RANKL have been assoicated with Osteopetrosis, autosomal recessive 2.
