背景信息	Serpin B3 or squamous cell carcinoma antigen 1 (SCCA-1, SCCA) is a cytoplasmic protease inhibitor that plays a role in modulating the host immune response against tumor cells. Interestingly SCCA also plays a role in modulating apoptosis in both inflammatory processes and cancer, and it is a standard tissue marker for squamous cell carcinoma and cervical cancer, as well as a biomarker for squamous cell carcinomas of the head, neck, lung and atopic dermatitis. Up regulated expression of SCCA in tumor cells appears to increase the invasion and/or metastasis ability of cancer cells, though exactly how is still being investigated. Moreover SCCA also seems to influence HBV entry into liver cells as high level of expression of SCCA on liver cells facilitates HBV entry and internalization. HBV is involved in liver carcinogenesis, so there is a possible link with SCCA and liver cancer as well. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-SCCA rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on A431 cell and human fetal skin lysates and in immunohistochemistry on paraffin embedded human cervical carcinoma tissue sections.
