    背景信息 Renin is processed as a 406 amino acid precursor (45 kDa) containing a 23 amino acid signal peptide and a 43 amino acid propeptide that is released from renal juxtaglomerular cells in response to sodium depletion, decreased blood volume and blood pressure, and b-adrenergic stimulation. Renin initiates a sequence of steps that begins with cleavage of a decapeptide angiotensin I from renin substrate (angiotensinogen), an alpha-2-globulin produced in the liver (and other organs including the kidney.

Renin, an aspartyl protease, cleaves angiotensinogen to form angiotensin I, which is converted to angiotensin II by angiotensin I converting enzyme, an important regulator of blood pressure and electrolyte balance. Transcript variants that encode different protein isoforms and that arise from alternative splicing and the use of alternative promoters have been described, but their full-length nature has not been determined. Mutations in this gene have been shown to cause familial hyperproreninemia.
