背景信息	Spectrin beta chain, non-erythrocytic 2 (SPTBN2) is also known as Beta-III spectrin and Spinocerebellar ataxia 5 protein. Spectrin beta chain most likely plays an important role in the structure of neuronal membrane skeleton. Spectrin beta chain is highly expressed in brain, kidney, pancreas, and liver, as well as lung and placenta in lower levels. SPTBN2 defects lead to spinocerebellar ataxia type 5 (SCA5), a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of cerebellar disorders.
