背景信息	The protein named Lysosomal alpha-glucosidase, also known as Acid maltase, or aglucosidase alpha, and encoded by the human gene name GAA is cleaved into two functional subunits called 76 kDa lysosomal alpha glucosidase and 70kDa lysosomal alpha glucosidase. GAA is an enzyme essential for proper degradation of glycogen in the lysosomes. Expressed cytoplasmically and localized to the lysosomes, GAA has multiple alleles. Mutations in GAA result in a variety of lysosomal storage disorders collective named glycogen storage disease type II, and a disease named Pompe disease. Some mutations are lethal in two years, others do not appear until later in life, thus much research on the exact role of GAA in metabolism and health is underway. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-GAA rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on human heart tissue and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human pancreas tissue sections.
