背景信息	Leukotriene A-4 hydrolase (LTA-4 hydrolase) or alternatively Leukotriene A(4) hydrolase and encoded by the human gene named LTA4H is the enzyme that catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of the proinflammatory mediator leukotriene B4 (LTB4). LTA4H converts leukotriene A4 (LTA4) into leukotriene B4. Leukotrienes are inflammatory mediators typically produced by leukocytes and other immune cells and are part of our innate immune response. They are key players in lipid signaling and often serve as chemotactic, autocrine and paracrine signaling factors as well. LTB4 is a key chemoattractant for neutrophils as well as an activator of the neutrophil reactive oxygen species (ROS) defense response. LTB4 can induce neutrophils to release enzymes from their lysosomes in anti-pathogen responses and appears to play a critical role in our resistance to infection from various pathogens, and indeed, individuals that demonstrate an increased susceptibility to infection to tuberculosis and leprosy. Moreover because LTA4H has dual activities (LTA4H also has aminopeptidase activity) LTA4H can also function as an anti-neutrophilic inflammatory enzyme. Recent research demonstrated that LTA4H degrades the neutrophil chemoattractant PGP and thereby limits neutrophil mediated inflammation in the lung. Thus LTA4H can modulate both pro- and anti-inflammatory responses and is being studied as a potential treatment target for a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases as well as a target for increasing our ability to resist infections from pathogens. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-LTA4H rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blots on HEK293 cell lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on normal human skin tissue sections.
