背景信息	Platelet basic protein (PBP) or alternatively named C-X-C motif chemokine 7, Leukocyte-derived growth factor (LDGF), Macrophage-derived growth factor (MDGF), or Small-inducible cytokine B7, is encoded by the human gene named PPBP with several synonyms, CTAP3, CXCL7, SCYB7, TGB1 and THBGB1. PPBP is a precursor chemokine molecule that gets processed in to a myriad of secreted bioactive peptides such as CTAP-III (Connective tissue activating peptide III), LA-PF4 (Low affinity platelet factor IV), TC-1 (Thrombocidin 1), TC-2 (Thrombocidin 2), Connective tissue activating peptide III 1-81 (CTAP-III(1-81), Beta-thromboglobulin (Beta-TG), Neutrophil-activating peptide 2 (NAP-2), Neutrophil-activating peptide 2(74) (NAP-2(74), Neutrophil-activating peptide 2(73) (NAP-2(73), Neutrophil-activating peptide 2(1-66) (NAP-2(1-66), and Neutrophil-activating peptide 2 (1-63) (NAP-2(1-63). These various bioactive peptides have multiple functions in different cells and tissues. CTAP-III stimulates DNA synthesis, mitosis, glycolysis, intracellular cAMP accumulation, prostaglandin E2 secretion, and synthesis of hyaluronic acid and sulfated glycosaminoglycan. It also stimulates the formation and secretion of plasminogen activator by human synovial cells. NAP-2 is a ligand for the chemokine receptor CXCR1 and CXCR2 (Interleukin 8 receptor alpha) and can induce proliferation; NAP-2’s various sub peptides like NAP-2(73) are all stimulants for neutrophils, and TC-1 and TC-2 have anti-bacterial properties and can be released from activated platelets. Because of its many influences, levels of PPBP (CXCL7) are being studied as possible biomarkers for everything from monitoring the progression of cancers to combating bacterial and pathogen infections. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-PPBP rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blotting on mouse liver tissue extracts.
