背景信息	Cathepsin S (CTSS), a member of the peptidase C1 family, is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase that may participate in the degradation of antigenic proteins to peptides for presentation on MHC class II molecules. Cathepsin S can function as an elastase over a broad pH range in alveolar macrophages. Cathepsin S is a lysosomal cysteine protease expressed in numerous tissues. Pro-Cathepsin S (37 kDa) is processed to the active form (28 kDa single chain). It is reportedly involved in antigen presentation, general protein catabolism, and tumor progression. Because of its redistribution or increased levels in human and animal tumors, cathepsin S may have a role in invasion and metastasis.
