背景信息	The protein named Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), or alternatively Glycosylation-inhibiting factor (GIF), L-dopachrome isomerase, L-dopachrome tautomerase or Phenylpyruvate tautomerase and encoded by the human gene MIF/GLIF/MMIF is another member of our innate immune response to bacterial pathogens. MIF operates like a pro-inflammatory cytokine and is expressed at sites of infection or inflammation and appears to mediate the response of macrophages in host defense. MIF prevents macrophages from wandering and thus ensures that they are more available to engulf invading bacteria. MIF also has three enzymatic activities but their precise role in the inflammatory response is unknown. MIF is a secreted protein that is secreted via a non-signal sequence pathway by macrophages in response to LPS or bacterial antigen stimulation. MIF can also be found in the cytoplasm of macrophages. MIF binds CD74 extracellular domain and intracellular proteins COPS5 and BNIPL. MIF levels in the blood are used as a measure of sepsis or septic shock. High levels of MIF are correlated with low survivability. We offer a rabbit polyclonal Anti-MIF Antibody that has been validated in western blot on Jurkat cell extracts.
