背景信息 The protein named FAD-linked sulfhydryl oxidase ALR, or alternatively, Hepatopoietin, or Augmenter of liver regeneration (hERV1), and encoded by the human gene named GFER/ALR/HERV1/HPO, is an oxidase that regenerates the redox-active bonds in a critical mitochondrial chaperone protein called CHCHD4/MIA40. GFER itself is then regenerated by donating electrons to Cytochrome C or molecular oxygen. GFER is critically important for transport of proteins and their proper folding in the mitochondria by CHCHD4/MIA40 protein. GFER also has other functions. When secreted, GFER may act as an autocrine heptotrophic growth factor important in liver regeneration and division. GFER is primarily located in the mitochondria of most cell types but can also be found in the cytoplasm and secreted particularly in the liver.
