背景信息 Bcl-2-interacting killer (BIK), also known by other names (Apoptosis inducer NBK; BIP1; BP4), is predominantly found in the ER membrane, and is expressed in response to DNA damage, cytokine release, and viral infection. In the absence of activated cell-survival proteins, BIK interacts with death-promoting proteins such as Bax, and suppresses anti-apoptotic BCL2 proteins, to accelerate mitochondrial apoptosis. BIK directly increases calcium release from the ER and remodeling of the mitochondrial cristae. BIK may be regulated by post-translational modifications produced from a STAR-PAP/ PKCδ pathway, and the corresponding gene, BIK, may be silenced by epigenetic mechanisms in various forms of cancer.
