背景信息	The protein named Cytochrome b-c1 complex subunit Rieske, mitochondrial or alternatively Complex III subunit 5, Cytochrome b-c1 complex subunit 5, Rieske iron-sulfur protein, (RISP) or Ubiquinol-Cytochrome C reductase iron-sulfur subunit, and encoded by the human gene named UCRFS1, is part of a huge multi-protein complex called Complex III or Cytochrome B-C1 complex which is the respiratory chain that generates the electrochemical potential needed to produce ATP for cellular metabolism. The UCRFS1 protein gets cleaved into the active transit peptide called Cytochrome b-c1 complex subunit 11 or Complex III subunit IX or Ubiquinol-cytochrome C reductase 8 kDa protein. Complex III contains 11 subunits and 3 respiratory subunits. It is located in the mitochondrion inner membrane and it contains iron and sulfur so it is part of the iron-sulfur protein complex within the mitochondria. UQCRFS1 is a key subunit of the bc1 complex (Complex III) and it is often amplified in many cancers at the gene level in more aggressive forms, likely due to the need for increased ATP production. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-UQCRFS1 rabbit polyclonal antibody has been tested in western blots on mouse ovary tissue extracts.
