背景信息 The prohibitin family of mitochondrial proteins regulate replicative lifespan. In the mitochondria, Prohibin 2 (PHB2) is thought to be involved in mitochondrial respiration activity and in aging. PHB2 translocates to the nucleus in an estrogen receptor (ER)--dependent manner, where it protects sister-chromatid cohesion in mitosis. PHB2 functions as an ER-selective coregulator that represses the activity of estrogens. PHB2 is essential for proper mitotic progression since it protects the centromeric cohesion from phosphorylation by Plk1 during early mitosis.
