背景信息 L glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in most aspects of normal brain function and can be perturbed in many neuropathologic conditions. The metabotropic glutamate receptors are a family of G protein coupled receptors that have been divided into 3 groups. Group I includes GRM1 and these receptors have been shown to activate phospholipase C. GRM1 expression has been reported in various regions of the brain and spinal cord. Binding of the excitatory neurotransmitter L- glutamate induces a conformation change, leading to the opening of the cation channel, and thereby converts the chemical signal to an electrical impulse. The receptor then desensitizes rapidly and enters a transient inactive state, characterized by the presence of bound agonist.

SUBUNIT: Homotetramer or heterotetramer of pore-forming glutamate receptor subunits. Tetramers may be formed by the dimerization of dimers. Interacts with DLG1 via its C-terminus. Interacts with CACNG2 and RASGRF2 (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein (By similarity). Note=Interaction with CACNG2 promotes cell surface expression (By similarity).
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Widely expressed in brain.
