背景信息	Aminoacylase-1 (ACY-1) or N-acyl-L-amino-acid amidohydrolase and encoded by the human gene ACY1 is an important enzyme in amino acid metabolism. Aminoacylase -1 involves the hydrolysis of N-acylated or N-acetylated amino acids into the free amino acid and acetic acid and thus helps to salvage such modified amino acids for recycling. It is a cytosolic enzyme that also requires zinc as a cofactor and expressed in many tissues including the kidney, brain, placenta and spleen. Interestingly, recent research has shown that overexpression of Aminoacylase-1 is associated with increased colorectal cancer progression, and Aminoacylase-1 expression has been associated with various tumors and is currently being studied as a potential biomarker and potential drug target. Moreover, recent research demonstrated that Aminoacylase-1 overexpression functioned as a tumor suppressor in renal cell carcinoma as well. Deficiencies in Aminoacylase-1 because of mutations in the Aminoacylase-1 (ACY1) are characterized by accumulation of N-acetyl amino acids in the urine. In affected individuals neurological findings such as febrile seizures, delay of psychomotor development and moderate mental retardation have been reported among other abnormalities. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-Aminoacylase-1 rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on HeLa, K562 and HepG2 cell lysates and in flow cytometry on permeabilized K562 cells in culture.
