背景信息	Ribosome maturation protein SBDS (SBDS) is a member of a highly conserved and very old protein family that appears to have existed since Archaea and is conserved from plants to vertebrates. It functions in RNA metabolism and is critical for proper ribosome function and assembly. SBDS together with elongation factor TUD1, triggers the GTP-dependent release of EIF6 from the 60S pre-ribosomes in the cytoplasm, thus activating the ribosomes and making them available for translation competence by allowing the full assembly of the 80S ribosome and facilitating EIF6 recycling to the nucleus, where it is required for 60S rRNA processing and nuclear export. SBDS is named after its syndrome when defective, the Shwachman-Bodian-Diamond syndrome, a genetic disorder where SBDS activity is affected causing a myriad of situations from pancreatic dysfunction to hematological problems and skeletal abnormalities. SBDS is largely localized in the cytoplasm and ribosomal arenas however because of SBDS’s involvement in RNA metabolism, it can be found in the nucleus and nucleolus as well as the mitotic spindle. Expressed in most cell types, SBDS interacts with a number of other intracellular partners including NPM1, RPA1, NIP7 and PRKDC. Recent research also indicates that SBDS may also play an important role in the cell’s response to cellular stress. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-SBDS rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on 293T, HepG2 and Caco-2 cell lysates.
