背景信息	Glutamate carboxypeptidase 2, or Folate hydrolase 1, Cell growth-inhibiting gene 27 protein, Folylpoly-gamma-glutamate carboxypeptidase (FGCP), Glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII), Membrane glutamate carboxypeptidase (mGCP), N-acetyl-alpha-linked acidic dipeptidase I, (NAALADase I), Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSM/PSMA), and Pterolylpoly-gamma-glutamate carboxypeptidase is encoded by the human gene named FOLH1 or alternatively FOLH, NAALAD1, PSM, or PSMA and is a bioactive enzyme expressed in numerous tissues but most abundant in prostate epithelium. PSMA has multiple functions depending upon the tissue and cell environment. For instance in the intestine, it is required for the update of folate; in the brain for the modulation of excitatory synapses and in prostate cancer for tumor progression. PSMA is absent on normal tissue vasculature, but highly expressed on the neovasculature of most solid tumors and is thus used as a marker. PSMA is normally a cell surface peptidase that is membrane bound which becomes cleaved and can be localized in the cytoplasm. PSMA is used as a diagnostic and prognostic indicator of prostate cancer and its levels are also associated with various neurological disorders including Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-PSMA rabbit monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot on LnCaP cell lysates and in paraffin embedded immunohistochemistry on human prostatic carcinoma tissue sections.
