背景信息	BPI fold-containing family A member 1, also known as Lung-specific protein X or Nasopharyngeal carcinoma-related protein or Palate lung and nasal epithelium clone protein or Secretory protein in upper respiratory tracts or Tracheal epithelium-enriched protein or Von Ebner protein Hl, and encoded by the gene name PLUNC or BPIFA1 or NASG, may play a role in the inflammatory response after exposure to irritants. PLUNC is expressed in the upper airways and nasopharyngeal regions. It is also expressed in lung cancers and some other types of cancers. The exact biological function of this protein is not known, however, it has been suggested to be involved in inflammatory responses to irritants in the upper airways. It may also serve as a potential molecular marker for detection of micrometastasis in non-small-cell lung cancer.
