背景信息 As a member of the piwi gene family, Mili/Piwil-2 plays an important role in various biological processes such as spermatogenesis, RNA silencing, gametogenesis, maintaining germline integrity, meiotic differentiation of spermatocytes, and germ cell differentiation. Mili/Piwil-2 has been implicated in transposon control through its direct interaction with piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs). It is localized in the cytoplasm of spermatogonia, early spermatocytes, and testicular germ cells, where it is enriched in chromatoid bodies. It is also expressed in certain types of somatic stem/progenitor cells.
